Dear Diary,

I almost didn’t write in you this week. I’ve been so efficient I just haven’t had the time. Before you ask, no, I still haven’t got the QP report done but I have taken some truly fabulous, bold, innovative and, dare I say it, original blue sky steps to doing so.

We had a lovely young man in form the CQC this week and apparently we’ve got to make some changes to how we do things. It came as a surprise to me as well but apparently, a receptionist in the doctor’s surgery is NOT allowed to cry and tell the patients in the waiting room all about her problems with her boyfriend. I felt really sorry for Amy at first but she seems to be coping well.

I showed her how to internalise everything and allow herself a brief nervous related stress overload at the end of each month, so that’s nice. And the savings we’ve made on Kleenex, well, we might even be able to afford a Christmas Party this year. I must remember to tell Amy to have her breakdown a few days after New Year’s.

According to the nice young man, we don’t communicate well enough in the surgery. So we drew up an action plan, it’s simple … Twice weekly the three of us will meet in order to determine our objectives for communication, staff satisfaction and patient objectives. Only there’s a twist.

We make it fun! I’ve even been given a new job title! Biweekly Organisational Representative for Entertainment – or BORE for short. First meeting is this afternoon. With all this fun in place there is no way I’ll get this QP report done. Wish me luck and I’ll let you know how I get on next time.

Yours
Edna, BORE.
